March 15th is a very important day in our school and indeed for every primary school in the country. It is Proclamation Day. On this day we will be honouring and commemorating those who fought in the 1916 Easter Rising through music and verse. We will also be reading our School Proclamation written by the pupils of St Colman's and finally we will be raising our National Flag.
We invite all our parents, grandparents and extended family to this celebration at 10.30a.m. on this day. After the formal celebrations there will be light refreshments served in the school. We hope as many as possible can attend.
Hard Luck to our 4th Class Boys who represented our school at the Chapter Level of the Credit Union Quiz. We didn't get through to the next round but all at St Colman's are very proud of you!
We have started our Confirmation Choir Practices last week. And with only 2 practices done, we're sounding pretty good already. It's great to have 3rd & 4th involved with the choir and to support 5th & 6th on the day.
Our Confirmation will be held on Wed 20th of April.
Good luck to our 4th class boys taking part in the chapter level of the Credit Union Quiz this Saturday February 27th at 2pm.
The boys are David Allen, Shane Carver, Shane Fitzgerald and Ewan McConville. Well done to all who have prepared the boys for this event.
Please note that our school is closed on Friday 26th of February 2016 because of the General Election.
5th & 6th Classes will have their Ceremony of Light as part of Mass in the Church @7.30pm on Thursday March 3rd. The boys are to bring in their Baptismal Candles to school before that date.
2nd Class will have their First Confession on Thursday the 10th of March @7.30pm in the Church. Please note the change of date.
March will be a busy month for us. Best of Luck to all in their preparations.
On Tuesday we had a visit from Fr Sean Corkery. Fr Sean spent a few hours with us going around to all the classes talking about Religion. He was very impressed with our boys and the welcome he received. He suggested a NO HOMEWORK night as a reward. Needless to say the boys were delighted!
We will be fundraising in the school through the sale of Living Shamrock again this year. The Shamrock is supplied by Irish Plants International Athlone. Each Shamrock is sold for €4. The school retains €2.00 of this cost. Each family has received a Sponsorship Card for the sale of same. Your participation in this activity is completely voluntary. You may choose not to participate in this activity or you may sell as many Shamrocks as you please. However all cards used or unused must be returned to the school by March 1st . If you need extra cards they are available in the school. Remember to purchase is entirely optional.
The pupils from 2nd, 3rd and 4th classes have completed their pictures for the Kanturk Arts Festival. This year’s theme is ‘Celebrations’. A big thank you to all involved in helping the boys with their work.
Here is a selection of some of our entries. All pictures will be displayed around the town for St Patrick's Day.
