3rd Class had a great time 10 pin Bowling on November 11th. Well done to the overall winners Kris, Nathan & Callum.
Well done to Bailey, Callum & Ciaran who were prize winners in the recent Kanturk Credit Union Art Competition.
They received their prizes at the Credit Union last night. We received great news last Monday that our long awaited New School had been given the green light. Yes the New Amalgamated School has received planning permission. We are being told now that it's all systems go. The next step is putting the plan out for tender and hopefully the building will start in March 2016. Exciting times ahead.
The pictures below are the plans for the New School as shared by TD Aine Collins on Twitter. Round 1 of the Penny Wars is over! The first battle was won by 2nd & 3rd. Well done folks! Their bottle weighed a whopping 19.3kg! Congratulations Boys. Enjoy your Homework Pass & you extra PE. Round 2 of the Penny Wars starts Monday. 5th & 6th Class are going to have a busy time counting the pennies. Altogether we collected 45.4 Kg of coins. It will take us weeks to count them. Today we received our National Flag and Proclamation from two members of our Defense Force. What a wonderful occasion!. Colin in 6th did us proud by reading some of the Proclamation. Nathan & Warren received the flag and Mrs Finnegan received the Proclamation. The soldiers then had a question and answer session where the boys asked very relevant questions. We finished the ceremony by playing & singing Amhrán na bhFiann. Well done to all! Great news just in! We have 3 prizewinners in the Credit Union Art Competition. Bailey in 2nd has won his category and Callum C in 5th and Ciaran C in 6th have received merits in their categories. Well done Boys!
Well done to Ciaran D in 6th who has just completed a Book Review of The Midnight Carnival for an educational website Seomra Ranga. The aim of this website is to share practical resources for the Primary School Classroom on the web. This is a great honour for Ciarán and our school. His review can be read HERE.
Today the Green Schools' Committees of both the Boys' and Girls' Schools went on a trip to Iniscarra Dam. We had a terrific day in this Nature Reserve. We saw squirrels, heron and cormorants. We walked up to the gates of the dam where we saw salmon jumping upstream. We were lucky with the timing of our trip as Gerard and Dan from the ESB Fisheries Conservation were catching Salmon and taking them to a nearby hatchery to spawn. We were shown a video explaining about how Electricity is generated there. We were then taken to see the generators, turbines and control rooms. What a fantastic trip we had today! What a great start we had to the remainder of the term! Yesterday the West Midland Theatre Company performed "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" for us. It was all going fine until they tried a spell to turn the teachers into frogs. Thankfully it didn't work! We have many budding young actors throughout the school who volunteered to take part in the show. Well done Boys!
