A meeting of the Green Schools Committee took place on Thursday January 26th. The minutes of the previous meeting were discussed.
- We had a report from the boys who went to the Water Forum in Fermoy on January 19th.
- We had a look at their draft action plan for the school on water made that day.
- We discovered that there were some pupils who did not understand the dual flush system and hippo bags.
- We discussed the leak discovered by Paudie on noting very high water meter levels. We brought the plumber who discussed that we needed two new pressure valves in different areas of the school.
- We are going to hand out our water survey on water usage at home again.
- Going to ask teachers to teach all about H2O again. Suggested helpful websites www.explorer.com and www.greenschoolsireland.org
- We expect a water resource pack from the Green Schools Office to help us with our theme and a visitor from Irish Water to come to the school arising from our day in Fermoy.
- We discussed further courses of action
- water purifier- barrel and net – home made rainwater recovery system,
- Walk 4 water day based on the age of children. Water based games, taking part in litter clean up, visiting a nearby river to look at water and report to I.R.D. Duhallow.
- Need to plan for our Water Action Day
- Ongoing reminder to school community about the need to keep doors closed and lights off when not in classrooms.
- Reminder to not wash paint down the sinks after art.
- Reminder of Poster Competition – Closing date Feb. 10th.
