Listen to our @GreenSchoolsIre Committee listing ways we can try and prevent #PlasticIslands4/12/2018
We were Very Proud of our #GreenSchoolsCommittee who gave a presentation on our work in our school on the theme of #GlobalCitizenshipMarineEnvironment to the Eco-Schools International Operators Meeting. @GreenSchoolsIre @AnTaisce
The 1st task of the New Committee was to attend a Green Schools day in Cork on October 26th.
At this forum we discussed Climate Change, Global Warming, Importance of our Marine Environment, Sources of Pollution and possible solutions to these problems. We were given the task to research the area of Plastic Islands. Following from this we are invited to a Green Schools Conference on December 5th in Limerick to present a project on this theme. We are now on our 4th Green Flag and our theme is – Global Citizenship Marine Environment. We carried out a survey on 28/9/17 to see how much information is known among the school community about our Marine Environment. The result of this survey is as follows;
We surveyed 33 pupils and 5 teachers; 12% of students and 60% of staff had heard of the term marine litter 1% of students and 100% of staff could list 3 sources of marine litter 1% of students and 100% of staff could list 3 reasons why marine litter is bad for the environment 12% of students and all staff could list 3 ways of preventing marine litter entering the environment 1% of students and 100% staff could list 3 ways in which climate change affects the marine environment world wide From the results we can see that we have a lot to learn on this theme. We look forward to exploring and learning about our Marine Environment over the next two years. An election of a New Green Schools Committee took place in the school on Friday October, 13th. The new committee members are :

My name is Dylan. I am in 6th Class. I like being in the Green Schools because it is a great way to learn about saving water and energy. I love also being able to learn and become better at saving water also. I've also learned that hard work pays off.
I'm very sad that this year will be my last year in the Green Schools. I love being able to learn so much about all the water saving. I also love being able to help the community and my school! --------------------------------------------------- My name is Paul and I am in sixth class. I was chosen to be in the Green Schools. I love being in the Green Schools because it teaches me to think hard about real problems such as how to save water. I think this will make me think about how to save money in the future. I also love how it gets me involved in the community. We talk to each other to get ideas which is a lot of fun. I hope that I can teach other people that saving water is crucial and so is not littering. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi I'm Shane and this is why I like being in the green schools committee . I like it because you get to learn facts about water , electricity , litter etc . It makes you think more of what happens to everything when it is used. We learn how to conserve water and keep the environment safe. We always try to keep the schools as clean as we can and never leave it dirty . Ever since we have begun the green schools the school is more clean and tidy . We go on trips to places that relate to our flag and clean up around the town . Recently we have found a leak and are now repairing it . I love being in the green schools. |
