In September 2013 St Colman's B.N.S started working towards achieving its very first Active School Flag.
During the School Year 2013 / 2014 as an Active School we:

- Provided all pupils with appropriate PE provision, taught a broad and balanced P.E curriculum and ensured the school PE policy wass both comprehensive and up to date.
- Promoted physical activity during break times as well as introducing new sports into the school PE timetable. This year we did Modern Dance , Golf, Swimming & Athletics.
- Involved students in the process and liaised with parents and the local community. Pupils, Staff & Parents were on the Active School's Committee. Parents took part in some of the activities organised for Active School's Week & for our School Sports Day.
- Sought assistance from the community and outside agencies such as the local sports partnerships and National bodies. Local G.A.A Hero, Aidan Walsh & Past Pupil gave out medals at our Sports Day. Our Local G.A.A , Rugby & Basketball Clubs are very supportive of our school.
- Took part in fun & competitive Blitzes in Football, Hurling & Basketball involving as many children from as many classes as possible. This year we were honoured by winning the Double - both Football & Hurling in the Duhallow Rural Schools competition. We also took part in Cork City Sports (Athletics).
- Organised our first ever Active School's Week in June. During this week some activities were organised for each day including: Couch to 5K Running Programme, Interclass Marathon Challenge, Golden Mile Challenge, Penalty Pandemonium, Sports Day, School Tours: Grenagh Farm, The Glen Resource Centre, UL Activity Camp, Junior & Senior World Cup, Unihoc,Trip to Irish Open Golf in Foto...
- Got Pupils, Staff & Parents to be as ACTIVE as possible!
Active School's Week June 2014
Our Golden Mile - June 2014
During the School Year 2014 / 2015 as an Active School we:
- Provided all pupils with appropriate PE provision, taught a broad and balanced P.E curriculum and ensured the school PE policy was both comprehensive and up to date.
- Promoted physical activity during break times as well as introducing new sports into the school PE timetable. This year we did a variety of Sports with David Beckham, Football with Timmy Burke, Tag Rugby with Matt Gandy, Couch to 5K, Zumba, Bowling, Swimming & Athletics. We were very proud to receive a Water Safety Awareness Award. We had a talk by Martina from Cork Mental Health Association who stressed the importance of exercise for our Mental Health.
- Involved students in the process and liaised with parents and the local community. Pupils, Staff & Parents were on the Active School's Committee. Parents took part in some of the activities organised for Active School's Week & for our School Sports Day.
- Sought assistance from the community and outside agencies such as the local sports partnerships and National bodies. Our Local G.A.A , Rugby & Basketball Clubs are very supportive of our school.
- Took part in fun & competitive Blitzes in Football, Hurling & Basketball involving as many children from as many classes as possible.6th took part in Football & Hurling Skills Competitions. 6th also took part in a #MeandMyHurl Twitter Competiton and Josh won. Both 5th & 6th helped out with the Junior Blitzes by reffing. This year we were honoured by winning the Football Final in the Duhallow Rural Schools competition. We also took part in Cork City Sports (Athletics) and came home with 8 trophies.For the first year ever we entered the Mallow Primary School Swimming Gala.
- Organised our second ever Active School's Week in June. During this week some activities were organised for each day including: Zumba, Marathon Challenge, Golden Mile Challenge, Penalty Shoot Out, Sports Day, School Tours: Lets Go Camp in Mallow, Glen Resource Centre, Kartworld, Cork, Junior & Senior World Cup, 6th Class Climbed Clara Mt, Rural School's Medal Presentation...
- Got Pupils, Staff & Parents to be as ACTIVE as possible!
- Applied for the Active School's Flag in June 2015.
- In June, Signed up to take part in Super Troopers, which is a programme being run in schools by Laya Healthcare. The goal is to increase childrens activity levels, while encouraging healthy eating and learning about the human body.

- Involve students in the process and liaised with parents and the local community. Pupils, Staff & Parents are on the Active School's Committee. Parents take part in some of the activities organised for Active School's Week & for our School Sports Day.
- Seek assistance from the community and outside agencies such as the local sports partnerships and National bodies. Our Local G.A.A , Rugby & Basketball Clubs are very supportive of our school.
