On Friday we had another red jersey day to show our support for Anthony , Lorcan and all the Cork Hurlers. Our Active School's Committee organised Hurling Challenges again. We had a Play Off between the 5 boys who hit the target- Colin , Brandon, David , Luciano and Brian. Colin and Brian were the winners. Well done boys. Afterwards we were treated to some oranges.
Today Mrs Finnegan informed all classes that they had NO HOMEWORK in honour of the Cork Ladies Footballers who beat Monaghan in the Final. We were also very proud of our Cork Hurlers despite the result, especially of Anthony & Lorcan.
Today some of our 3rd & 4th Classes attended a Hurling Blitz in the Kanturk GAA pitch. Children from Newmarket , Lismire , Dromagh and Millstreet also attended. They had a great day. Referees were chosen from 6th Class. They had a difficult task but did it well. James M, Eoin , Liam , Dylan and Eoghan were our refs. Well done to all!
Well done to the boys from 6th and 3rd & 4th who planted flowers at the front of our school yesterday. The school is looking good!
On Tuesday Music Classes for 3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th began again this year with Jackie Bolster. Once again the Parent's Association have kindly offered to subsidise it. The cost per child per term is now €10.
All the boys learn the Tin Whistle and in 5th Class those that wish to, get the opportunity to learn the Concertina on School Instruments. Some boys also play the Flute Yesterday in conjunction with our RED jersey day the Active School's Committee organised Hurling Challenges for each class. Boys were asked to solo the ball around the yard without dropping it. Some teachers timed the boys to see who was the fastest. The boys were also asked to see how many times they could hop the ball in 30 seconds. The final challenge was to hit the target. Only 4 boys in the school managed this. They were Brian in 6th, David & Brandon in 5th and Colin in 4th. Future Cork players perhaps!!!! Well done to all.
As you know our Cork Senior Hurling Team are playing the All Ireland Hurling Final this Sunday against Clare. To honour our two local lads Anthony Nash and Lorcán McLoughlin the boys wore RED today. Each class also took part in Hurling Challenges throughout the day.
Well done to everybody who took part in our Fire Drill yesterday. This is an important part of our School Life to make sure that each of us knows what to do in the event of a fire.
We'd like to extend a very special welcome to our new boys throughout the school especially our First Class Boys. We hope they will be very happy with us in St Colman's.
