Tusla is a Child and Family Agency that was established on the 1st January 2014 (Taking over from NEWB) and is now the dedicated State agency responsible for improving well being and outcomes for children.
The Education (Welfare) Act 2000 aims to provide a comprehensive, national system which will ensure that all children of school going age attend school.
Under Section 21 of the Act, Our School is obliged to keep a record of pupils’ attendance or non-attendance. We must document the reasons for failure to attend on each school day & must submit to Tusla the names of all pupils who miss 20 or more days from school.
Under the Act, Parents are required to send their children to school each day & if not, to notify the school, in writing, the reason for a child’s absence.
