On Thursday the 5th & 6th Class Children in the 3 Parish Schools took part in a Commitment Ceremony. This is the first step in their journey towards Confirmation. Each child had to make commitments / promises on ways they could get ready and prepare themselves for their Confirmation. Their parents, family and teachers also committed to help them as well.

We had a visit from some of those in the Peter Pan Panto. Can you spot and name the Past Pupil? The Panto is back again in Kanturk after a break of over 30 years. Great spirit and team work was shown today by the 6th Class in the organising of the Cake Sale. It was a terrific success. €320 was raised for the children of the Philippines and everyone went home stuffed. Great thanks is due to all those who so generously donated the most delicious buns and cakes!
6th Class are organising a Cake Sale this Friday to raise funds for the people of the Philippines.
We had 3 winners in the Kanturk Credit Union Art Competition. James & Ronan in 6th and Ciaran in 4th. The theme this year was "Gotta lotta Colour". Well done boys!
Congratulations to Ronan Harrington in 1st Class for winning the A.I.B. Hallowe'en Colouring Competition. He won a €30 "One for All Voucher". Well done Ronan!
Today we started a Food Dudes Programme. It's a rewards programme whereby children are encouraged to eat more fruit and vegetables. Today the boys had apples and tomatoes. Timmy Burke, from our local GAA Club came to our school on Wednesday to do football training with 5th & 6th. During the year each class will get the opportunity to do both football and hurling with Timmy. Many thanks to Timmy and the Kanturk GAA Club for organising this. We think we might have a few future Cork players in the school! Today we started up our Reading Buddies again this year. This is a system whereby the older boys listen and help the younger boys with their reading. They talk about the book, predict what might happen next, make connections with their own lives, help to sound out words and question each other on the book. We found this to be very enjoyable and beneficial last year. Keep up the great reading boys! |
