Once again our Green School's Committee have organised a project for us this year . This year Students from Scoil Mhuire with their teacher Ms Brett are helping us to paint a Mural on the side wall. Our theme for the Mural is " Litter & Waste". Ms Brett took away our Posters from our competition last year to get ideas from our work. They have the wall painted white. The Students from Scoil Mhuire will draw the outline for us and the Boys in our school will help to paint it. We are looking forward to doing this.
On Friday 19th 0f October we celebrated "Green Day" in St Colman's. We each wore something green , we brought in something to recycle and we walked to the
Recycling Centre. There we learnt about all the different items that can be recycled. We were amazed that most items can be recycled for a charge of €3. We had a great response to our Clothes Collection again this year. We collected 600kg of Clothes and 4 phones. We hope to make around €400. We use a company called Lenrac. This company has assured us that up to 98% of the clothes are either reused or recycled. This is very important to us as we strive to achieve our first green flag. We hope to do a Clothes Collections twice every year. Many thanks to all those who donated clothes. We hope to use this money to make our school more visually attractive. Clothes Collection: Sept 28th St Colman's Green School's Committee are holding a Clothes Collection on September 28th.
Each bag of clothes sent in will provide much needed funds for the school. The following items can be brought in - New & Used Men's, Women's & Children's Clothing, Shoes,Belts, Handbags, Ties, Linens Household Textiles, Stuffed Toys, etc. We are also collecting Mobile Phones. Please bring in your bag anytime before Friday September 28th. This week we made the headlines on the local paper- The Corkman- with "St Colman's goes Green" .
The Green School's Committee's end of year report was published in the Kanturk News Section of the Corkman. We are very proud of our hard work and achievemnets in the last school year and it was great to share this with our parents and the people of our Community. To read this report click on this link. Our First Green School's Meeting was held on Thursday 6/9/2012. It was chaired by Mrs Stack. It will be a very busy year for St Colman's & the Green School's Committee as we hope to apply for our first Green Flag this year.
The first job of the year will be to elect a new committee. It was decided that the old committee would stay on and one new member from each class would join them.We hope to have the new committee up and running by the end of September. We have lost two of our old Committee Members from last year's Sixth Class- Darragh O' Keeffe & Daniel Duggan. Both boys did trojan work on the committee last year. We thank them for their hard work and we wish them well in Coláiste Treasa. Hopefully we will be inviting them back to raise our first green flag later on in the year. Our aim to make St Colman's Cleaner and Greener got off to a great start this week with Mrs Stack's Class planting flowers at the front of the school. Well done to Mrs Stack and her 3rd & 4th Class.
Wecome back to our Green School's Committee and all the boys of St Colman's who we hope will continue to work hard to make sure that our School is a Greener and a more Environmentally Friendly place to be.
