Friday the 18th is a busy day for us. We would like to invite you and your extended family to come along to our School Mass on Friday December 18th at 1.30pm in the Church.
Our 1st class will act out the Nativity play during this Mass. This is always a very special occasion for us and a great start to the Christmas Season. The children may be collected from the school immediately after. The two Primary Schools are holding a coffee morning on Friday December 18th in the Girl’s Primary School Hall from 9.15am. to 12.15pm. with the proceeds going to the Cashman Family (after the loss of their house).
We invite you to do some baking for this event and you can drop it to the school on Friday morning. We invite as many as possible to come along carers, grandparents, parents and extended family for a chat and a cuppa to support. If you are unavailable to attend yourself, you might give a donation to your child and all children with money will be allowed to go to the cake sale during school time with their class teacher. To contribute is optional however we hope as many as possible can support This week our 4th, 5th & 6th Classes participated in an "Hour of Code" by doing programming on Minecraft. There were 14 challenges to be done starting easy and gradually getting more challenging! They thoroughly enjoyed their hour and had great fun. The Hour of Code is a global campaign whereby millions of students worldwide take part in an hour of computer science designed to show us that anybody can learn the basics of computer programming. This is our 2nd year in St Colman's participating in the Hour of Code. We had a visit from Fiona Harrington assessing us for our Active School Flag on Wednesday 9th. She visited all classes. In 5th & 6th she was presented with an informative powerpoint on our active school activities. In 4th and 5th she was treated to Zumba dancing performed in the rain. 2nd & 3rd class performed a song called ‘‘Thall i Scoil Cholmáin’’ the lyrics and music of which were composed by themselves & Mrs Stack and lastly she was treated to a ‘‘Bizzy break’’ presentation from 1st and 2nd class. It was a fabulous team effort and we feel that she was impressed with our school. We await the confirmation of our flag. We thank everybody most sincerely for their work and effort in this Active Schools Project.
Our Annual Christmas raffle will take place in the school on Friday December 22nd. Tickets are on sale in the school at a cost of €1 per strip or 3 strips for €2. We thank those who have sponsored the fabulous prizes. Remember if you’re not in you can’t win!
Today we had a terrific talk about Personal Safety at home, on the roads and online from Garda Mairead & Garda Michael. The younger boys had great fun afterwards dressing up and playing with the handcuffs and baton. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas around the school. On Thursday Mrs Finnegan, helped out by her team of elves, put up the Christmas Decorations. Well done folks! The school is looking great! |
