New Wave Mental Maths : Tuesday Week 34 & Problem
Number 11:
2Kg = 2,000g
How many 100g are in 2000g? ( A Division Sum)
Multiply your answer by €1.50
Number 15
The length of the Rectangle 6 cm is the same as 2 diameters.
6 = 2 x diameter
So 3 = Length of Diameter
Diameter = 2 x radius
So 1.5cm = radius
Problem
Find the Perimeter. ( Add all the sides)
Find ¾ of it.
Draw a shape whose sides add up to your answer.
IXL Site
Today week we are going to concentrate on Adding & Subtracting of Fractions with unlike denominators - K7, K8 & K9
You may need a pen and paper here.
Please NOTE: You need to simplify your answers or they will be marked wrong.
K.7 Add fractions with unlike denominators
K.8 Subtract fractions with unlike denominators
K.9 Add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators: word problems
We have done these before - so this is just a reminder.
Example of Addition
⅓ + 3/6 =
I cannot not add these fractions unless I find the common denominator. ( A number both bottom numbers will go into.)
Change everything to sixths.
⅓ = 2/6 ( Method: Divide by the bottom - multiply by the top. 3 into 6 goes twice - 2 x 1 = 2)
2/6 + 3/6 = 5/5
Example of Subtraction
7/9 - ⅔ =
I cannot not subtract these fractions unless I find the common denominator. ( A number both bottom numbers will go into.)
Change everything to ninths.
⅔ = 6/9( Method: Divide by the bottom - multiply by the top. 3 into 9 goes three times - 3 x 2 = 6)
Again please try and spend at least 30 minutes a day on these. Try and get a SMART Score of 100 out of 100 ...or as near as you can to it!
Mathemagic 5
For those not engaging with the IXL Maths Site, please check out Chapters 8 & 11: Fractions 1 & 2 and Chapter 30 Chance
There is no need to do every sum but aim to spend 30 minutes a day working through these chapters.
